HELP DEVELOP READING SKILLS

Reading is an important skill that needs to be developed in children. It is both necessary for school and lifelong learning. Our children’s ability to learn English, Math Science and other subject areas depends greatly on their ability to read. Over the years, reading has been identified as one of the main factors affecting our children’s performance in school. Through programs such as Every Child A Reader Program (ECARP),Bright Minds Read, Sa Aklat Sisikat and our Library Hubs, you can be involved in developing reading skills among our young by helping provide books, teaching guides or even a book depot in your community.

PROVIDE FLEXIBLE LEARNING

Various alternative modes of educating our children are also being provided to address their diverse learning circumstances. These flexible learning modes expand the choices on what, when, where and how our children learn. These programs support different styles of learning, including e-learning. You can help provide computers, internet laboratories, educational television and even teach English by radio. You can also help train our teachers on how to use technology in teaching and learning.

BUILD MULTI-GRADE SCHOOLS

To best deliver learning to our children in schools with low class sizes or teacher shortages, multi-grade classes of two or more grade levels under one teacher are being implemented. You can be part of this effort by providing multi-grade classroom facilities, learning materials or help enhance multi-grade programs in areas where they are needed.

HELP PUPILS COMPLETE SCHOOL

Many of the children who fail to attend school do so because of poor health and nutrition. Many also drop out to help earn a living for their families. The Department of Education implements several interventions that strengthen student engagement to various learning opportunities for them to complete their schooling. Through the Preschool Program, Modified In-School-Off-School Approach, Feeding Program and Tulong Aral, your support can go a long way in helping our children finish their basic education.

HELP BUILD MORE CLASSROOMS

Building more classrooms is a perennial need being prioritized by the government to ensure that access to education for all is not hampered. But with the annual increase in student enrollment, resources are not always adequate to accommodate all students in available classrooms. More enrollees each year mean more classrooms needed, not to mention the need to repair or even replace school buildings hit by calamities. Beyond standard classrooms, you can help build mobile school houses in areas with severe classroom shortages in just two weeks.

TRAIN TEACHERS

One factor affecting the quality of education today is the lack of teachers who have the expertise in their subjects areas. Studies reveal that many students underperform when their teachres do not have mastery of the subjects they teach. With government’s thrust of improving English, Math and Science, extensive training programs and scholarships are being given to teachers. You can help provide training programs to more teachers across the country.
